TG100 Tailshaft Seal

Thordon TG100 Shaft Seal
Shaft Seal for Abrasive Water Conditions

The Thordon TG100 is a new mechanical seal designed specifically for 86mm (3.375") to 305mm (12") shaft vessels operating in either clean or abrasive-laden waters including workboats, harbor tugs, offshore supply vessels, yachts, ferries, fishing trawlers and self-propelled dredgers.

Manufactured to the same exacting standards as our high performing range of Thordon Bearings, the TG100 seals use the highest quality, hard wearing silicon carbide faces and our proprietary elastomeric polymers to offer the best combination of strength/stiffness and flexibility/elasticity.

  • Unlimited shelf life on elastomeric bellows
  • Unique emergency seal allows stand-alone operation to get you back to port without damaging the seal
  • Elastomeric bellows accept axial/radial shaft movement and compensate for alignment issues
  • Manufactured for long wear life and reduced maintenance costs
  • Wedge "lock" design ensures the rotary face is perfectly square with the shaft
  • Hydraulically balanced to accommodate various drafts
  • Single supplier for bearings and seals

Unique Emergency Seal

A unique feature of the TG100 is the emergency seal that allows stand-alone operation. This not only ensures that you safely return to port but helps prevent permanent seal damage.

Maintenance-free Shaft Seals

The TG100 should require no periodic maintenance. A well maintained seal should require no parts within a 5-year drydock interval, however an additional "water port" allows for cleaning/flushing of dirt and abrasives deposited in the bellows over time.

Thordon Seawater-Lubricated Tailshaft Bearings Selected for SUMED Pipeline Service Boats

    Jun 26, 2023
Egypt’s SUMED pipeline operator Arab Petroleum Pipeline Company (SUMED) has completed the tailshaft conversion to Thordon’s SXL seawater-lubricated bearing system for seven special purpose single point mooring (SPM) service boats. The final in a series of 17.5m (57.4ft) long, 1976–built service boats had its original oil-lubricated tailshaft bearings replaced with the Thordon system at Nefertiti Marine’s Yard-K, in Rosetta Nile, in December 2022. The first vessel, SUMED 10, was converted in 2019.

Thordon Tailshaft Package Selected After Competitor Solution Wears NIRSA Down

    Jun 13, 2023
Ecuador’s foremost tuna fishing operator NIRSA has completed a project to convert the tailshaft seals and bearings aboard the 1973-built tuna vessel BP EL Marquez to a seawater-lubricated package from Thordon Bearings. In total, four Thordon SXL propeller shaft bearings and a pair of TG100 mechanical shaft seals, each of which features Thordon’s emergency-safe-return-to-port (SRTP) capability, replaced a competitor’s seawater-lubricated bearings and stuffing box after the shaft had suffered early wear due to gland packing. Bronze shaft liners were also included in the Thordon scope of supply in what marked a significant retrofit project that required the renewal of shafts, sterntubes, seals and bearings.
