Can this all be true? When discussing water lubricated propeller bearings with other engineers or designers, we often talk about establishing “lift” in the bearing, or the importance of keeping shaft rpm above a certain “threshold speed”. What we are really talking about is the creation of a very thin film of water between the shaft and the bearing surface which allows the bearing to carry the load with low friction and minimal wear.

Just to give this perspective, when Hamjet first developed the pump-like system for propelling small water craft, they ran a shake-down cruise on the Ganges back in the 1950's.
