Thordon COMPAC Water Quality Package
A steady supply of relatively abrasive free water to a water lubricated bearing will ensure long, predictable, bearing wear life. With this factor in mind, Thordon has developed a self-contained water conditioning and monitoring package to ensure that an adequate supply of clean water is being delivered to both the forward seal and the COMPAC bearings.
Thor-Lube Circulation and Monitoring System
The Thor-Lube Circulation and Monitoring System circulates the stern tube lubricant, TL3G, while monitoring lubricant flow and temperature. The PLC controller can be fully integrated into the ship's control and monitoring system.
TL3G Lubricant for Thor-Lube Stern Tube Bearing System
TL3G is a new lubricant designed for use in the Thor-Lube Stern Tube Bearing System. TL3G lubricant outperforms mineral oil in several important stern tube lubricant characteristics. Kinematic viscosity is more stable over a wider temperature range, friction is lower, heat transfer ability is much higher and resistance to corrosion if seawater contamination of the lubricant occurs is better.
Independent laboratory testing also confirmed that TL3G lubricant conforms to the United States Clean Water Act under these parameters:
- it is readily biodegradable to a level greater than 70% after 28 days (36% after 5 days)
- it exhibits water solubility at all compositions (so it will not accumulate on the shoreline or settle in clumps)
- it does not form a surface sheen
- it is "relatively harmless" and "practically non-toxic" in two U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) marine toxicity tests.
TL3G has recently been awarded Environment Canada's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) certificate.
Thor-Coat Corrosion Protection for Rotating Marine Applications
Thor-Coat was specifically developed to complement Thordon's COMPAC water lubricated propeller shaft bearing system by providing corrosion protection for a ten-year period in service, potentially eliminating the need for the current 5 year shaft withdrawal and inspection. A toughened, 2-part epoxy coating, Thor-Coat is three to nine times more flexible than existing products currently in use.
TG-75 Adhesive
TG-75 is a 2-part epoxy adhesive designed for use with Thordon elastomer bearings offering outstanding shear strength and peel adhesion as well as high durability and toughness.
